China King of Kings
An invitational where every seat is reserved for a current title-holder — literally a tournament of kings. The "王中王" (king of kings) framing draws on a long Chinese sporting tradition of crowning a champion-of-champions when no single title can settle who is best, and Go has used the format intermittently since the early Chinese domestic title era. Hosted in Shengzhou, the small Zhejiang city better known as the cradle of Yueju opera, an unusual pairing of classical regional culture with elite modern weiqi.
