Myeongin

The Myeongin ("Brilliant Person") is the Korean equivalent of Japan's celebrated Meijin title, established in 1968. The tournament has had a turbulent history, going defunct from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2016 until its revival in 2021. Lee Changho holds the record with 13 Myeongin titles, followed by his teacher Cho Hun-hyun with 12, making this tournament a showcase for arguably the two greatest Korean players in history. The last champion before the 2016 suspension was Lee Sedol, famous worldwide for his 2016 match against Google's AlphaGo.
