Nihon Ki-in Championship

The Nihon Ki-in Championship was one of the earliest professional Go titles in Japan, organized directly by the Nihon Ki-in as its institutional championship. Predating many of the newspaper-sponsored titles that would come to dominate the Japanese Go calendar, it held special significance as the Go association's own marquee competition. The title was eventually superseded by the proliferation of better-funded newspaper titles like the Kisei, Meijin, and Honinbo, but it remains an important part of Japanese Go history.
