Nongshim Cup
The Nongshim Cup is the Go world's most exciting international team competition, founded in 1999 and sponsored by Nongshim, the Korean food giant famous for its Shin Ramyun instant noodles. Three national teams from China, Japan, and South Korea each field five players in a dramatic tag-team elimination format: losers are knocked out while winners keep playing, meaning a single hot-streak player can potentially defeat an entire opposing team. The competition unfolds across three stages held in different cities, creating mounting tension as teams are whittled down. Lee Changho was the tournament's early hero, finishing off opponents as Korea's anchor player, while Shin Jinseo has dominated in recent years.
