The Daguoshou (大国手, "Grand National Champion") was a Chinese professional Go title evoking the historical term for the greatest Go player in the land. The tournament used a distinctive win-and-continue format where the champion kept playing successive challengers, a system that rewards hot streaks and produces dramatic extended runs. The title's name connected modern competition to centuries of Chinese Go tradition, when "guoshou" was the highest honorific a player could receive.
