Wangwi
The Wangwi ("Royal Position") was a major Korean professional Go championship that ran from 1966 to 2008, sponsored by the Chung-ang Ilbo newspaper. The tournament featured generous thinking times of four to five hours, making it one of Korea's more contemplative competitions. Lee Changho's record of eleven consecutive Wangwi title defenses stands as one of the most remarkable streaks in Go history. The Wangwi's discontinuation was part of a broader trend of Korean tournaments losing newspaper sponsorship in the digital age.
