A short-lived but lavishly funded international tournament, the Toyota & Denso Cup World Go Oza ran for just four editions between 2002 and 2009 on a biennial schedule. It stood out for its extravagant prizes: 30 million yen in cash plus a brand-new Toyota car worth nearly 10 million yen. Lee Changho won the inaugural edition, Lee Sedol claimed back-to-back titles, and Gu Li won the final edition. The tournament was cancelled amid the global financial downturn.
