See deeper analysis plans →Established in 2023, the Iwamoto Kaoru Memorial Masuda Cup is a non-official youth tournament for Nihon Ki-in members aged 18 and under ranked 2-dan or below. It honors Iwamoto Kaoru (1902-1999), the Honinbo title holder born in Masuda City, Shimane Prefecture, who famously played the "Atomic Bomb Game" during WWII and later devoted his life to spreading Go internationally. The format is a 16-player Swiss-system league over four rounds, with finals held in Masuda City. Sponsored by Masuda City, its Board of Education, and Doei Shoji Co., with a champion's prize of 300,000 yen.
