The Yugen Cup was a Japanese rapid Go tournament that featured shorter time controls than standard professional games. Rapid tournaments occupy an important niche in professional Go, testing players' intuition and reading speed rather than deep, time-consuming analysis. The Yugen Cup contributed to the growing popularity of fast-paced Go events in Japan, a trend that has accelerated in the AI era as professionals have become more comfortable with quick decision-making.
