The Saikoi League (最高位リーグ, "Highest Rank League") was an elite Japanese invitational league reserved for the country's top-ranked professionals. Similar in prestige to the league stages of Japan's major newspaper titles, it featured a round-robin format among a select group of the strongest players. The tournament's name reflected its aspirational status as a gathering of Japan's very best, and its results carried significant weight in determining the unofficial hierarchy of Japanese professional Go.
