About this tournament

The Japan-China Super Go (also called the Japan-China Go Exchange) was a bilateral team competition launched in 1984, pitting squads of leading Japanese and Chinese professionals against each other in a ladder-style format. China won seven of the first eleven editions, with Nie Weiping's marathon sweeps in the early rounds reshaping perceptions of the Sino-Japanese balance of power. From the 12th edition the event was restructured into individual matches across champion, women's, and rising-stars divisions, and the series ran through 2001 before ending after sixteen editions.
