The China NEC Cup was a Chinese professional Go tournament sponsored by NEC Corporation, the Japanese electronics giant that was also a major Go sponsor in Japan (through the NEC Cup and NEC Shun-Ei). NEC's cross-border sponsorship illustrated Go's role as a cultural bridge between China and Japan, with the Japanese company investing in Chinese competition during a period of growing Sino-Japanese Go rivalry. The tournament contributed to the internationalization of Go sponsorship.
