See deeper analysis plans →Established in 1987, the Chinese Tianyuan is one of China's oldest and most respected individual Go titles. "Tianyuan" means "origin of heaven" and refers to the center point of the Go board. The format features a single-elimination preliminary to determine a challenger, who faces the defending champion in a best-of-three title match. Lian Xiao won three consecutive titles from 2017 to 2019. From 1988 to 2002, the Tianyuan winner also faced Japan's Tengen holder in a special cross-national match, adding an international dimension to this domestic title.
