The World Amateur Go Championship (WAGC) is the most prestigious international amateur Go tournament, held annually since 1979. National Go associations from around the world each send their top amateur player to compete in a multi-round Swiss-system tournament. The WAGC has been instrumental in spreading Go globally and has produced several players who later turned professional.
