The IBM Hayago Open was a Korean rapid Go tournament sponsored by IBM, with "hayago" (빠른바둑) meaning "fast Go." The shorter time controls tested players' intuition and speed of calculation, producing more dynamic and aggressive games than standard-time events. IBM's sponsorship of a Go tournament was notable given the company's history with game-playing AI, including Deep Blue's famous chess victory over Kasparov in 1997, predating the Go AI revolution by nearly two decades.
