The Chinese Qiwang (棋王, "King of Go/Chess") dates back to 1979 and is one of China's original prestigious professional titles alongside the Mingren and Tianyuan. The title carries deep historical weight — "Qiwang" evokes supreme mastery over the board. Winners have included Nie Weiping, Ma Xiaochun, and other legends who defined Chinese Go's rise to global dominance.
