Wu Qingyuan Cup
Held in Fuzhou, Fujian — birthplace of Wu Qingyuan (Go Seigen), widely regarded as the greatest Go player of the 20th century. Wu's life bridged China and Japan: born in 1914 to a Republican-era family, he moved to Japan as a teenager and rewrote opening theory through the "New Fuseki" movement with Kitani Minoru, then dominated the juban-go (ten-game match) era of the 1930s-50s, reducing every leading player of his generation to handicap status. The eponymous women's world championship in his hometown is both a tribute to that legacy and a marker of how thoroughly women have entered the top ranks of professional Go in the 21st century.
