Quzhou Lanke Cup
The Lanke Cup takes its name from one of Go's most beloved legends: a Chinese woodcutter named Wang Zhi who stopped to watch two immortals playing Go in the mountains near Quzhou, only to discover when he looked away that centuries had passed and his axe handle had rotted to dust -- a story predating Rip Van Winkle by over a thousand years. Held in Quzhou every second year since 2006, this is the domestic championship: 32 of China's strongest professionals in a single-elimination bracket, with Yu Bin taking the inaugural title and Gu Li, Fan Tingyu, Mi Yuting, Tan Xiao and Dang Yifei among the champions since. Ke Jie has twice reached the final and twice lost it. In 2022 the organisers added a separate international event under the same name -- see the Quzhou Lanke Cup World Open, which runs annually and keeps its own edition numbers.
