KaTrain on Kifubara's GPUs
Love KaTrain but your computer struggles with KataGo? Point KaTrain at Kifubara — every analysis runs on our GPUs. Your laptop stays cool, your battery thanks you, and you keep the KaTrain UX you already know.
Who this is for
- You play and study on a laptop or computer that doesn't have a great GPU.
- You love KaTrain and don't want to switch to a different app.
- You'd rather not babysit a KataGo install, model downloads, or driver updates.
- You want analysis fast enough that pondering during play actually feels responsive.
What you get
- Up to 2500 visits per position — solid analysis depth, comparable to a few seconds of search on a modern GPU.
- Every KaTrain feature that uses analysis: play, Deeper, full-game review, sweep, equalize, alternatives.
- Pondering during play feels responsive, even on a slow laptop.
- Need higher caps? Get in touch — we'll work something out.
Included with the Deep plan — $9/mo.
How to set it up
KaTrain v1.18.0 (released June 2026) added a built-in Remote Engine field. Setup is one line:
- Open KaTrain's hamburger menu (≡) → General & Engine Settings → Remote Engine.
- Paste your personal Kifubara URL into the KataGo WebSocket URL field.
- Click Update Settings. Every analysis now runs on our GPUs.
Your URL will look like this:
wss://kifubara.app/ws/katago/<your-personal-token>
To switch back to a local KataGo, clear the field and click Update Settings. Nothing else changes on your computer.
On KaTrain v1.17.x or older? Sign in to see the Legacy setup →
How does it actually work?
Kifubara speaks the standard KataGo Analysis Engine JSON protocol over a WebSocket. Whatever your tool would normally send to a local KataGo, it sends to our server instead. Responses stream back the same way. No protocol fork, no special bindings — it's just KataGo, hosted.
Huge thanks to Sander Land for adding the built-in Remote Engine support to KaTrain — without his work this wouldn't be possible.
