Chunlan Cup
Founded in 1998 and held biennially, the Chunlan Cup is China's flagship international Go championship, sponsored by the Chunlan Group (one of China's largest air-conditioning manufacturers). The format is a 24-player knockout with the top 8 seeds entering in round two, leading to a best-of-five final. Prize money is generous: US$150,000 for the champion and US$50,000 for the runner-up. The tournament has been graced by champions from all three major Go nations, with Lee Changho winning twice and Korean star Shin Jinseo winning the 13th edition in 2021. It serves as an important counterweight to Korean-hosted events, ensuring China has a seat at the table in determining Go's world champions.
