Chinese Mingren
First held in 1988, the Chinese Mingren ("brilliant man") is China's equivalent of the prestigious Japanese Meijin title. A 32-player single-elimination bracket determines a challenger, who faces the reigning titleholder in a best-of-three final. The tournament's most remarkable record belongs to Ma Xiaochun, who won the 2nd Mingren in 1989 and defended the title for thirteen consecutive years -- the second-longest reign of any Go title in history. Liu Xiaoguang was the inaugural champion in 1988.
