World Go Championship

Organized by the Nihon Ki-in with special cooperation from Nikkei Inc. and sponsors including NTT DoCoMo, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking, Daiwa Securities, and Hankyu Electric Railway, the World Go Championship ran for three editions (2017-2019) before being cancelled due to COVID-19 and not revived. The inaugural 2017 edition was notable for including DeepZenGo AI alongside human professionals from Japan, China, and Korea in a round-robin format. Later editions expanded to 6-8 players with knockout brackets. Park Junghwan won all three editions. Prize money was 30 million yen for the champion.
