Bailing Cup

The Bailing Cup was an international Go world championship held every two years from 2012 to 2019, for a total of four editions. Sponsored by the Bailing Group, a major Chinese pharmaceutical company, the tournament featured a large initial field of 64 players competing in a knockout format with a best-of-five final. Its champions read like a who's who of modern Chinese Go: Zhou Ruiyang (2013), Ke Jie (2015), Chen Yaoye (2017), and Ke Jie again in the final edition (2019). Though short-lived, the Bailing Cup was significant as part of China's expansion of world-level Go competitions.
