Organized jointly by the Maeil Business Newspaper and the Korea Baduk Association, it is open to all Korean professionals who compete through a 16-player knockout preliminary, with finalists meeting in a best-of-five title match. The winner receives 70 million won and the runner-up 30 million won. The GS Caltex Cup is notable for maintaining steady corporate sponsorship across nearly three decades.
