Wanbao Cup

The Wanbao Cup was a Taiwanese professional Go tournament sponsored by the Wanbao (萬報) newspaper. Following the East Asian tradition of newspaper-sponsored Go competitions that originated in Japan, the Wanbao Cup brought professional Weiqi competition to Taiwanese readers and helped build public interest in the game. Taiwan's Go scene, though smaller than those of Japan, Korea, and China, has produced world-class players and maintained a vibrant competitive calendar.
